Our new artist of the week lands on the dynamic duo with sounds that screams of past, present and future influences. J*DaVeY possess soul melodic tunes infused with New Wave electronic impulses that mesh so well, makes it impossible to put a label on it. Born with music in their veins, both Jack Davey (lead vocalist) and Brook D’Leau (producer) came together in the studio like hand in glove and continues to evolve. While their sound was solely Hip Hop in the beginning, Jack began to incorporate soul singing into their songs. The duos blend of somewhere between Prince and the B-52’s, with traces of funk, surf, and soul fused together into it’s own unique recipe. With their current album release, The Beauty In Distortion plays with the variance and depth of a polished, full album. With second disc, On The Land of the Lost, producer-extraordinaire ?uestlove and Renaissance emcee Phonte of Little Brother contribute in an equally holistic compilation of futuristic records. Throughout the 23 tracks, two constants bind the project together in a mystical fashion: the steamy vocal musings of Jack Davey and the bleeps, drums, and melodies of Brook D’Leau. Recently signed to the Rock division of Warner Bros Records, J*DaVeY is hard at work recording new songs for their Fall ‘08 debut. J*DaVeY’s musical sustenance is the future for contemporary urban music, the much needed breath of fresh air.
