Julia Vaughn
When we decided to select our next Femme Fatale, we knew she had to embody qualities that was unprecedented, engaging and cultivating. Her name is like a morsel exiting your lips, I’m please to introduce to you, Ms. Julia Vaughn.
Femme Fatale: Julia Vaughn
Hi Julia! I’m dying to know, what’s your nationality?
I’m one half northern Chinese, and half “White” (Austrian and Welsh)
Now that 2010 has approached us, do/did you have any new year’s resolution?
Ugh, time feels like it’s going at mach speeds, I swear! I’m still catching myself dating checks and papers with ‘09 instead of ’10… obviously not ready for another year yet! And as of January 1st, I’ve been proud to say that I’m a non-smoker!
What fashion trends are you currently obsessing this year?
Androgyny, heavy draping, metal-magic and “ugly/trashy-chic”.
You’re the only estrogen roaming the Triumvir headquarters, do you have a mastermind to help bless us with Triumvir women?
I’ve been pestering the guys for four years to start a women’s label and now that the economy is on its’ knees, it might take another four before we really get it going. The guys did compromise and we do have Triumvir women’s tees available but that’s as far as it’ll go for now. That said, that’s also one of the reasons why I post how I sport the men’s gear with a little feminine twist to it, for the die-hard female supporters who are willing to spend the dough and do the same. To any girl reading this who isn’t afraid to shop in the men’s department… high five, rules were made to be broken.
You have an amazing eye for DIY projects, have you ever thought about getting into fashion design or your own line?
First of all, thank you! Fresh out of high school, I had thought about going to either FIDM or Parsons, but decided to move to Taipei and pursue make-up instead. Taipei was fun but as it turned out, make-up wasn’t as big a passion as I thought it was. There isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not standing in front of my closet, thinking “I don’t have anything to wear” and wondering why I haven’t started my own label to remedy the problem… so does every other girl though, right? I put my ideas down on paper and do my best to sketch them out so that one day, all those “ideas” will be hanging on hangers in my closet rather than just lead on paper. We’ll see!
As one of the pretty faces in Hellz Bellz’ and Triumvir’s lookbooks, can we look forward to seeing more of you in front of the camera for other brands/companies?
The Hellz gig was completely spontaneous; I went to one of their sample sales in LA and was asked by Miss Lawn to do their next Hellz campaign. That’s kind of the way most of these go, if the opportunity arises and it’s something I can relate to and believe in, then I’m all for it. As of right now, I don’t have anything planed, so we’ll just have to play things by ear.
Can we please talk about your food fixation? Its quite interesting. Lol
Food, food, food. My greatest passion in life is definitely some good grub. I get it from growing up with parents who shared the same passion for fine dining. My mom, who was a professional chef and restaurant owner, would spend all day cooking so that come dinner time, we’d all get together for an eight course spread. Then again, living in Taiwan, Korea, India, Egypt, Switzerland and the US played a pretty big roll in food appreciation as well. It’s a fixation I take great pride in.
What are your favorite food delicacies?
There are way too many to narrow it down to just one favorite. Braised pig knuckle over sticky rice is up there with Korean BBQ, fine Indian cuisine, cheese fondue and a big slab of perfectly prepared steak n’ baked potato. All this talk is making my mouth sweat and eyes tear! I’m gettin’ hungraaaaayy! Is it chow time, yet??
There’s a saying, “the key to a mans heart is through his stomach” do you agree?
I know that’s the key to mine! As for men… from my experience, no two men have the same key… and that’s IF they have a heart to begin with.
Three essential items you can’t leave home without?
A bag I can fit most my life in, snacks, and my crackberry.
What’s next for Julia Vaughn?
Well, Brandon and I are getting married and having our wedding in Taiwan this April, which is right around the corner and we’re both thrilled. The process has been insane and I’ve learned that planning a wedding is too frustrating to do twice in one lifetime. This is definitely a one time deal! In terms of career moves, I’ve got a couple things up these sleeves of mine, but I’ve never been one to let them out of the bag until the time’s right, so you and everyone else is just going to have to wait… until further notice!
